Finissage und Führung
Curator Dr. Álvaro Garreaud guides through the exhibition “Sorry, but I’m Not Sorry” for the last time and provides an insight into Béla Váradi’s photo series showing LGBTQIA+ people within the Sinti:zze, Rom:nja and Traveller:innen (GRT) community.
In our society, algorithms often influence how we see images and information in a biased way. The people who benefit from inequalities control which images are disseminated, reinforcing existing stereotypes. However, photography can help to challenge these biased views, especially in relation to identity. Often, social norms adhere to clear divisions and avoid uncertainty, leading to misunderstandings. Béla Váradi’s photo series challenges these stereotypes by showing how LGBTQIA+ individuals within the Sinti:zze, Rom:nja and Traveller:innen communities proudly embrace both sides of their identity. These photos are not just simple representations, but show different realities. The series “Sorry, but I’m Not Sorry” celebrates strength and identity and helps us move from personal stories to shared memories.
